Mahider grew from the African market opened by Sleshi and Fikera Tadesse into a restaurant in 2011. Meals are served on injera, the flatbread used to scoop up stews and vegetables.

The menu checked in October 2026 included doro wot, lamb tibs and a vegetarian combination. The adjacent market sells ingredients such as teff and berbere for cooking at home.
