Environmental work and the race

Kevin R Slater is the Democratic candidate for Utah House District 53. The Tribune identifies him as an environmental technician; in his answers, Slater describes work as an environmental scientist and geologist. [1] [3]

He faces incumbent Republican Kay J. Christofferson and Forward candidate John Boyd. The Tribune describes the district as covering most of Lehi. His official filing is for the Utah Legislature, rather than Congress. [3] [4]

Housing and transportation

Slater's campaign centers on reducing the cost of living through looser zoning restrictions and greater public-transit investment. He argues that everyday activities should be possible without requiring every resident to own a car. [2]

In his October 12 answers, he favored mixed-use housing, transit in fast-growing communities and action against price collusion. That last proposal does not establish that any named company has broken the law. [3]

Water and public protection

Slater advocated water-efficient farming, rainwater harvesting, drought-resistant native vegetation along waterways and work on groundwater pollution. He linked environmental experience to enforcement of safety and consumer-protection rules. [3]

He also raised construction-quality concerns and called for stronger enforcement of existing protections. His statements do not establish misconduct by an identified builder or substitute for an inspection of a particular home. [3]

Ballot issues and available background

Slater said he would vote against both Constitutional Amendment A and Constitutional Amendment B in the Tribune's 2026 questionnaire. [3]

His public campaign site provides a short policy introduction and a way to contact the campaign, but little detailed educational or employment chronology. The profile therefore concentrates on his stated positions and verified candidacy rather than filling those biographical gaps with assumptions. The official declaration and state candidate list remain the source for his ballot identity. [2] [4]
