Work and community involvement

Ashlee Matthews's official member record lists office management as her profession. It also records community involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters Utah, founding board and events work with the Single Parent Project, and volunteer and foster work with the Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation. Those activities provide background on her involvement with families and local nonprofit organizations before and alongside her legislative responsibilities. [2]

Entering the House in 2021

Matthews won election in 2020 and began legislative service in 2021. She now represents House District 37 in Salt Lake County, identified by her caucus with the Kearns area. Her election year and the year she began serving are distinct. The current roster lists her on House Business, Labor, and Commerce, Ethics, Rules and Transportation, combining workplace, procedural and infrastructure responsibilities. [1] [2]

Childcare and working parents

Matthews's caucus biography emphasizes childcare affordability and access, support for working parents, maternal healthcare and employment opportunities for people with criminal records. Those are the caucus's descriptions of her legislative focus. They give context for her family-policy interests without assigning a measured result to a particular bill or treating a caucus summary as a complete account of every proposal she has sponsored. [1]

In the 2026 General Session, Ashlee Matthews was chief sponsor of H.B. 299, School Response to Sexual Offense. It clarifies when school discipline and conduct policies apply to students who have committed serious offenses or sexual crimes. The governor signed it on March 19, 2026. [3]

In the 2026 General Session, Ashlee Matthews was chief sponsor of H.B. 453, Unspent Funding Amendments. It would have created an Unspent Balances Restricted Account, funded by an annual transfer of a set share of lapsing balances and excess account transfers. It failed in the House, and it was filed on March 6, 2026. [4]

Transportation funding and the Winter Games

Her current budget assignment is Transportation and Infrastructure Appropriations. She also serves on the Transportation Interim Committee, Business and Labor Interim Committee and Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Coordination Committee. That portfolio places long-term mobility and preparations for the Winter Games alongside her household and workplace interests, including the separate task of reviewing the public spending associated with infrastructure and transportation services.
