Fairfield at a glance

Utah County · Utah

Fairfield’s small-town setting carries an unusually large chapter of territorial history. The community was known as Big Spring or South Fort before becoming Fairfield, and the arrival of the United States Army at Camp Floyd in 1858 transformed the surrounding settlement for a brief period.

Camp Floyd State Park Museum now preserves that story through its historic structures and cemetery, including the Stagecoach Inn. The town’s history also connects the area with stagecoach travel, the Pony Express and the telegraph. Municipal meetings, water payments and permit questions belong with Fairfield Town rather than the state park. Fairfield’s council notices can provide an agenda, public packet and separately named audio segments. Use the agenda to locate the item and check whether the recording is only one part of the meeting before treating it as a complete account.
