Boulder at a glance

Garfield County · Utah

Boulder is a small ranching community along Scenic Byway 12 at the foot of Boulder Mountain. Its position between high country and Grand Staircase–Escalante country makes it a useful stop for travelers moving between mountain and desert landscapes.

The town’s account of its past describes nineteenth-century settlement and incorporation in 1958. A much older story is preserved at Anasazi State Park Museum, where the Coombs archaeological site records an Ancestral Puebloan community. These are distinct chapters of Boulder’s history, and both deserve space in an introduction to the town. Boulder’s council notices can carry multiple versions of agendas and supporting materials, with draft and final labels in their filenames. Check the notice’s meeting date and document version before following an item, and distinguish meeting-schedule changes from the record of a completed meeting.
