Background

Travis Mote is Willard’s mayor. His municipal work includes negotiations over proposed mining activity in Willard Canyon, where the city sought to protect water infrastructure and public trail access. The city’s account says Mote and the council pursued commitments after a mining proposal emerged in 2023. Those priorities included land and easements for future water systems, relocation of an existing spring-water line, a reclamation bond, dust controls and continued access to the canyon trail. Willard subsequently published the resulting property, access and water agreements for residents to review.
