Background

Marty Gleave is Piute County’s sheriff, with a law-enforcement career spanning decades. FOX 13 reported in May 2019 that he had held the sheriff’s office for 24 years. That month, Gleave helped rescue a driver whose car had gone into the Sevier River after swerving to avoid an elk. He used a lariat from his vehicle to help stabilize the stranded man, then worked with bystanders to bring him to the riverbank. Gleave emphasized the contribution of the other people who assisted in the rescue.
