Business and neighborhood roots

Karen Lang and her husband opened Oakbridge Greenhouse in 1984, building a longstanding local business while raising their family in West Valley City. Her official biography identifies that small-business experience alongside her residence in the community. The combination gives her a professional connection with local commerce as well as the neighborhood interests represented by the mayor’s office. [1]

Council and board experience

Lang served two terms on the West Valley City Council before becoming mayor. Her current city biography identifies her as serving a second mayoral term. It lists service on the Salt Lake County Board of Health, the city’s Clean and Beautiful Committee and ChamberWest. Earlier assignments included the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, the city’s planning and zoning committee and Jordan Valley Hospital’s governing board. [1]

Public priorities

In her published 2025 candidate answers, Lang identifies community safety, education and access to resources as priorities. These are her own statements explaining the direction she wanted the city to take. Read alongside her board service, they show a municipal agenda extending beyond land-use decisions to health, neighborhood conditions and the relationships between residents, public institutions and local businesses. [3]

Citywide representation

West Valley City’s current elected-member directory identifies Lang as mayor alongside four district representatives and two at-large council members. Every resident is represented by the mayor, both at-large members and one district member. That arrangement gives the mayor a citywide constituency and requires collaboration with officials who represent both individual neighborhoods and the entire municipality when setting the city’s direction.
