Background
Jon Huntsman Jr. served as Utah governor from 2005 to 2009 before resigning to become U.S. ambassador to China. Raised in Salt Lake City, he earned a bachelor's degree in international politics from the University of Pennsylvania. His earlier federal work included service in the Reagan White House, as ambassador to Singapore and in a trade role under President George W. Bush. As governor, he pursued tax changes and education initiatives. He later sought the Republican presidential nomination, suspending that campaign in January 2012. This profile concerns the former governor, rather than his father, businessman Jon Huntsman Sr.
