Career and education

Jason E. Thompson earned undergraduate degrees in history and political science and a Master of Public Administration at Brigham Young University. His House biography describes an entrepreneurial career that began with a used-and-rare-book business and later included helping establish and expand Fox Pest Control in Logan. It also records business interests in home services, auto repair and real-estate investment, combining enterprise management with public-administration training. [1]

Public service and district

Thompson began House service in January 2025 and represents District 3 in Cache County. His official biography records three years as mayor of River Heights before his state legislative service and describes longstanding Cache Valley ties. His biography connects that municipal service with an entrepreneurial career and public-administration education, bringing experience in both city government and business to his Cache County district seat. [1]

Documented legislative work

The Legislature records Thompson's 2026 HB190, Child Care Business Tax Credit, and HB520, Higher Education Student Housing Study, as signed by the governor. His proposals on healthcare reform and dog attacks ended as filed in the House. The sponsor list connects family and student costs with other regulatory subjects, while the separate action histories prevent treating every item as an implemented program or a completed improvement in household affordability. [2]

In the 2026 General Session, Jason E. Thompson was chief sponsor of H.B. 265, Non-nicotine Inhalation Product Amendments. It requires non-nicotine inhalation products and the substances used in them to be registered, sets civil penalties for selling unregistered ones, and creates a criminal offense for illegally distributing cannabinoid inhalation products. The governor signed it on March 23, 2026. [3]

In the 2026 General Session, Jason E. Thompson was chief sponsor of H.B. 190, Child Care Business Tax Credit. It widens the income tax credit for employer-provided child care to cover off-site facilities, raises the credit for certain small employers and drops the rule that an employer must first have claimed the credit for construction costs. The governor signed it on March 26, 2026. [4]

Committee and budget responsibilities

Thompson serves on House Education, House Judiciary and Public Education Appropriations, with matching education and judiciary interim assignments. He also sits on the Federalism Commission. That portfolio combines school policy and funding with legal issues and state-federal relationships, adding statewide responsibilities to his earlier city-government experience. The assignments identify where he works institutionally, apart from the private businesses described in his professional biography. [1]
