Justice-system experience
Diane Turner spent twenty-seven years working for the State of Utah in criminal and juvenile justice. Her 2025 candidate statement identifies thirteen years as a sworn peace officer and a longstanding family connection to Murray. She studied at the University of Utah. That background brought experience with public institutions, residents in difficult circumstances and government operations into her later municipal service. [2]
Council and community work
Turner has represented Murray’s District 4 since 2014 and began a fourth term in January 2026, continuing through December 2029. After retiring from state employment, she directed Yeehaaa, an organization using work with horses to help young people develop coping skills. Her official biography also emphasizes constituent communication and government transparency, alongside continued involvement in local public policy. [1]
Acting mayor in 2017
After Mayor Ted Eyre died in office in 2017, Turner temporarily served as acting mayor while retaining her council seat. The Murray Journal’s account explains that her role followed from being council chair. The council subsequently appointed Blair Camp to complete the mayoral term. This episode gave Turner executive responsibilities during a leadership transition before she returned fully to her council duties. [3]
Environmental and transportation work
Turner’s city biography credits her with initiating an idle-free ordinance and helping develop the east-side canal trail. Her policy interests include cleaner vehicle purchasing, environmentally responsible building practices, recycling and active transportation. Those subjects connect public health and mobility with neighborhood conditions, and provide specific examples of municipal work beyond the general responsibilities of council membership. [1]
