Career and education
Clinton Okerlund grew up in Richfield and earned a business degree at Brigham Young University and an MBA at the University of Notre Dame. His official House biography describes work at Zions Bank, 14 years with Bank of America and a chief financial officer role at a startup biotechnology laboratory in Sandy. That career combines banking and corporate financial management. [1]
Public service and district
Okerlund began House service in January 2025 and represents District 42 in Salt Lake County, including portions of Sandy, Draper and Cottonwood Heights. His biography also records service on the Alta High School Community Council. It identifies education, clean air and fiscal accountability as interests, linking his financial career and local school involvement with his newer role in state government. [1]
Documented legislative work
The Legislature records Okerlund's 2026 HB308, Homeless Services Amendments, as signed by the governor. His sponsor list also includes proposals on legislator leave, water use and animal-fighting penalties that did not receive the same final status. The water proposal reached the Senate before ending with a return-to-Rules action. These entries establish particular areas of legislative activity while preserving the differences between introduction, partial advancement and a signed measure. [2]
In the 2026 General Session, Clinton Okerlund was chief sponsor of H.B. 328, Water Usage Modifications. It limits overhead spray irrigation of nonfunctional turf on certain new development and redevelopment, with exceptions, asks cities and counties to give notice of the prohibition and encourages them to adjust land-use rules. The House passed it and the Senate took it up on second reading, but it did not pass the Senate; the last action recorded, on March 7, 2026, returned it to the Senate Rules Committee. [3]
In the 2026 General Session, Clinton Okerlund was chief sponsor of H.B. 308, Homeless Services Amendments. It rewrites the duties of the Office of Homeless Services and the state homeless services coordinator, updates staffing and reporting requirements for related boards and repeals obsolete code. The governor signed it on March 24, 2026. [4]
Committee and budget responsibilities
Okerlund serves on House Revenue and Taxation and House Transportation, as well as Economic and Community Development Appropriations. His interim assignments include education and revenue and taxation, and he sits on the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Coordination Committee. Those responsibilities extend from tax and agency-spending decisions to transportation and Games preparations, giving his public-finance background several distinct applications within the Legislature.
