Career and education
Calvin Roberts graduated from Brigham Young University and began his finance career at Credit Suisse, working on mergers and acquisitions. His House biography describes a later return to Utah and work in private equity and finance. Before joining the Legislature, he spent five years on the Draper City Council, combining private-sector financial experience with municipal service in the community where he lives. [1]
Public service and district
Roberts won election in 2024 and began House service in January 2025. He represents District 46 in Salt Lake County, identified in his official biography with Draper and Bluffdale. The current roster lists private equity as his profession. His five years on the Draper City Council gave him municipal-government experience before he began representing those southern Salt Lake Valley communities in the state Legislature. [1]
Documented legislative work
Roberts's 2026 sponsorship list places substantial attention on development and infrastructure. The Legislature records HB492, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Housing Amendments, and HB475, Development Planning and Coordination Amendments, as signed by the governor. A separate transportation-funding proposal ended as filed in the House. The list therefore identifies specific subjects he carried while distinguishing signed legislation from a proposal that did not complete the legislative process. [2]
In the 2026 General Session, Calvin Roberts was chief sponsor of H.B. 68, Housing and Community Development Amendments. It creates a Division of Housing and Community Development inside the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity, transfers staff and programs to it, establishes a state housing coordinator appointed by the governor with Senate consent, and repeals the Commission on Housing Affordability. The governor signed it on March 25, 2026. [3]
In the 2026 General Session, Calvin Roberts was chief sponsor of H.B. 249, Federal Funds Modifications. It has the legislative fiscal analyst send the federal-funds portions of each budget stress test to the Federalism Commission, which reviews them and may recommend legislation. The governor signed it on March 17, 2026. [4]
Committee and budget responsibilities
His current assignments include House Business, Labor, and Commerce, House Transportation and House Rules. Roberts also serves on Transportation and Infrastructure Appropriations, the Federalism Commission and interim government-operations and transportation committees. The portfolio puts business regulation and infrastructure funding alongside legislative procedure and intergovernmental questions, providing an institutional connection to his earlier finance and municipal-government experience without assuming a position on every development project.
