The Uintah County Sheriff's Office said Friday that a checkpoint on Seep Ridge Road near Turkey Tracks was ended after deputies determined Utah law had not been followed in authorizing it. [1]

The sheriff's office said it learned of the checkpoint on Oct. 16. Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement and Ute Tribe Fish and Game officers were conducting it. Uintah County deputies responded and spoke with the officers. [1]

The sheriff's office said it found that "Utah statute was not followed in obtaining authorization for the checkpoint," and the checkpoint was terminated immediately. [1]

The office asked anyone who was stopped, detained or had property taken at this checkpoint or earlier ones at the same location, and who is willing to speak with deputies, to call 435-789-2511 or email sheriffrecords@uintah.utah.gov. The release did not include a response from the BIA or the Ute Tribe. [1]
