Three people were injured when a pickup truck rear-ended a semi on northbound Interstate 15 north of Cedar City on Thursday evening, Cedar City News reported, citing the Utah Highway Patrol. [1]

Lt. Clay Allred said the crash happened about 6:30 p.m. near mile marker 68. He said the semi, hauling two belly dump trailers, was traveling below the speed limit in the right lane when a Dodge Ram pickup approached from behind. The woman driving the pickup could not slow in time and struck the rear trailer, Allred said. The semi continued a couple hundred yards onto the shoulder with the pickup lodged in the trailer. [1]

Allred said the driver, a woman about 30, and a woman in her 60s had minor to moderate injuries. A 13-year-old girl had injuries he described as severe. She was taken by ambulance to Cedar City Hospital and reportedly flown to St. George Regional Hospital. The semi driver, a man in his 30s, was not hurt. [1]

The patrol is investigating. Allred said that whether the pickup occupants wore seat belts is still under investigation but that the two passengers may have been unrestrained. [1]
