Salt Lake City

Hundreds of people gathered Saturday afternoon at the Utah State Capitol for a 'No Kings: Vote Early' rally, then marched to a ballot box at the Salt Lake City Library, KUTV reported. [1]

Organizers said the event was one of more than 2,000 nationwide, with 12 in Utah, including marches to ballot boxes and voter registration tables. Shauna Bona of the League of Women Voters said the event was sponsored by organizations throughout Utah and the country. KUTV listed the Utah organizers as including the League of Women Voters of Utah, Salt Lake DSA, Utah Progressive Caucus, the Salt Lake County Democratic Party and NAACP of Salt Lake, among others. [1]

Organizers said the timing followed the Oct. 13 mailing of ballots in Utah so participants could come with ballots in hand. Bona said organizers were keeping campaign materials away from the ballot boxes and described the event as nonpartisan. "This is not about party," she said. [1]

Participant Patti VanWagoner told KUTV she attended because she wants people to keep the freedom to vote. Bona said organizers want people to vote early so their votes are counted. [1]
