CHG Healthcare is a healthcare staffing business with a published contact location in Midvale. It connects healthcare organizations with physicians and other clinicians through temporary assignments and permanent placement. Its brands include CompHealth, Weatherby Healthcare and Global Medical Staffing, which serve different parts of the staffing market. [1] [2]

The company traces its beginnings to 1979 and an effort to bring physicians to rural communities struggling to fill openings. Temporary assignments, commonly called locum tenens, remain part of that business. The history offers Utah readers a connection between a local employer and a national healthcare challenge: finding clinicians when a position is vacant or regular staff are away. [3] [2]

CompHealth's account of its origins starts earlier than 1979. In the mid-1970s the Health Systems Research Institute, created by the University of Utah's College of Medicine and Intermountain Healthcare, ran a program that brought rural doctors to Salt Lake City for practice-management courses while other physicians covered their patients. Therus Kolff volunteered in that coverage network and in 1979 named his own locum tenens organization Comprehensive Health Systems, which later became CompHealth and CHG Healthcare. The company is the source for this history. [4]
